Anonymous Election: For an anonymous election, the vote is recorded, but all records of who cast the vote are deleted. The voter's choice is recorded and the fact that the voter was cast is recorded, but there is no way to link the voter to their choices. At the end of the voting process, a unique auto-generated confirmation code is provided for the voter. Should the voter want to verify that their choices were recorded correctly, they may do so by contacting the election administrators (the client) and voluntarily relinquishing anonymity by providing the confirmation number. This process allows everyone to uniquely verify even anonymous elections.

Election: An election is a set of one or more ballots. There are many types of elections:

  • single ballot election - An election where only a single ballot exists and all voters vote on the same ballot
  • Multiple ballot election - An election where multiple ballots are simultaneously active and the voter list determines eligibility of voters
  • Tiered election - Case where a voter is eligible to vote on one ballot out of the one or more that may be available and active
  • Sub-ballot election - Case where common questions are stored in one ballot while a voter eligibility criterion determines access to others.

Election Start: An election is considered to have started if (a) ballot has been activated, (b) the current date/time is greater or equal to the start time set in the settings tab.

Election End: An election is said to have ended if the current date/time is greater than the end time set in the settings tab.
